Blog Tour: Ride (Bayonet Scars 1) by J.C. Emery

Death comes in Armani. Salvation comes in leather.

Principessa to the Mancuso crime family, Alexandra knows a thing or two about living outside the bounds of the law. Suffocated by the future her father has laid out for her, she makes a choice she can't take back, changing the entire trajectory of her life.
Thrust into the dark and dangerous world of the Forsaken Motorcycle Club for her own protection, Alex finds herself faced with the last thing she needs right now: the man of her dreams. He’s sex in leather, the devil incarnate, and one hell of a kisser. But he’s also off-limits. Ryan Stone can be her friend, but he’s forbidden to be her lover.

Third-generation Forsaken, Ryan knows nothing other than life on two wheels, and he wouldn’t have it any other way. He enjoys the many privileges that come with the patch, and the only laws he recognizes are the ones set-forth by his club. That is, until who he wants more than anything isn’t allowed on the back of his bike —or in his bed. Balancing his desire for her body, and need to keep her safe, Ryan tries to keep Alex at a distance. Finally having made a choice for herself, she’s done hearing the word “no” and will push boundaries even Ryan himself doesn’t dare cross.

Love is never more tempting than when it’s forbidden.

Amber says...

"You deserve happily ever after.""I don't want happily ever after. I want fucked-up and mean."

This is a great way to describe the relationship between Alex and Ryan. With everything pushing them away from each other, can they find their way to a happily ever after?
Alex is a mafia princess who does the unspeakable and in order to save her life she must hide with the Forsaken MC. A group of rough and tumble bikers that we learn to love. It's not all sunshine and rainbows, but honestly I'd prefer whiskey and leather any day. Ryan is the son of the President of Forsaken and has to live up to the standards of the MC. Alex is off limits but that doesn't stop him from wanting her.

One of my favorite things about this book is that there is not that insane "insta-love" that so many have now. Sure there was lust at first sight, but you get to see the relationship grow. It's not always pretty..and sometimes you want to smack Ryan in the head with a tire iron...but there's beauty in the problems they face and overcome. There is not a cliffhanger (though at 20 pages left to go I was concerned) but you are left wanting more. More Ryan and Alex, more Duke, more of all of the men of Forsaken. 5 star read for sure! Loved every second of this Ride and can't wait to for the second book.

Falling in love is the best way to kill your heart because then it's not yours anymore. It's laid in a coffin, waiting to be cremated. - Ville Valo

First off, I want to say that this book is fan-freaking-tastic!! I loved it from page one. If you like reading books where the main man is a bad-ass, hard-as-nails biker, then read this book. If you are looking for hearts and flowers, you will not find it here.

Alex's father is a mob boss in New York. He is mean and demands respect. He would kill his own mother if he had to. Alex feels trapped by the life that is expected of her - which means being submissive to all men and doing what she is told. Her father has arranged for her to marry one of his men and she feels like she is drowning. When her cousin and twin brother are both shot, she tells a cop a something she shouldn't have and is soon labeled a rat. Being a rat in the mob world means death, even if she is the bosses daughter.

Am I supposed to smile and flirt back, or am I supposed to play the obedient little principessa? That's why Leo’s interested in me, isn't it? Because I’m obedient? That I’m Carlo Mancuso's daughter? That I’m his ticket up the ranks? He doesn't even know me. Clearly, I’m a business deal, and above all, that pisses me off. I’m used to being seen for who my father is and not who I am, but this still bothers me. I could get stuck with this guy’s ring on my finger, my body in his bed, and my belly full of his kids. I cringe at the thought of my entire life being planned out before me. No surprise, no option, no choice.

Alex's aunt Gloria is trying to protect her by telling her about an aunt Ruby that she never knew about. Soon after, aunt Ruby and over 20 Forsaken Motorcycle Club members show up to wisk her to a safe place in California.

The truth is, everyone is going to hurt you. You just got to find the ones worth suffering for.
- Bob Marley

She is instantly attracted to Ryan (AKA Trigger/Punk) but she is told that all of the men in the club are off limits to her.  Ryan wants her too, but he is such a hard ass, he doesn't want to admit it. He was such and asshole sometimes that I wanted to give Alex a good shake because she let him treat her like shit! She got braver to speak her mind towards the end, but she needs to find her inner badass bitch and grab him by the balls!

I’m sorry for trying to save my brother. I’m sorry for betraying my brother’s trust. I’m sorry for not being pretty enough, or sexy enough, for Ryan. I’m sorry for being too young, or I’m sorry for being too naïve. I’m always sorry, and I’m sick of it.

Almost all of the book is written in Alex's POV and about 10 - 15% in Ryan's POV. I love that the author did that...I needed that little bit of insight into him or I would have just continued thinking that he was an asshole! I didn't want the book to end and I can't wait to read the next one! I hope that it is a continuation of Alex & Ryan because I think that there is so much left in the story!

...(Alex) wiggles in closer to me, curling up against my side. And as much as I want to tell her that I don’t cuddle with chicks, it’d be a lie. Because having her next to me is really fucking comfortable, and I’ll pop a cap in anybody’s ass who thinks they’re moving us out of this bed.

If you like to read books with crude bad ass bikers like Madeline Sheehan's Undeniable series, Bella Jewel's MC Sinners, and Joanna Wylde's Reaper's property, you will love this book!

5 HUGE STARS!!!!!!

As a child, JC was fascinated by things that went bump in the night. As they say, some things never change. Now, as an adult, she divides her time between the sexy law men, mythical creatures, bad-ass bikers, and kick-ass heroines that live inside her head and her Netflix addiction. JC is a San Francisco Bay Area native, but has also called both Texas and Louisiana home. These days she rocks her flip flops year-round in Northern California and can't imagine a climate more beautiful. Her dream is to own her own Harley and she feels compelled to tell you that she is Team Peeta all the way.
JC is the author of the Men with Badges series, The Birthright Series, and the Bayonet Scars series.
