Maddox

I drive home in comfortable silence. I don’t think I’ve ever been content with comfortable silence with a woman before which is just another reminder of how Avery is different from everyone else. She doesn’t feel the need to talk all the time for the sake of talking.
As we start to approach the city limits of Rivers Edge, I start to wonder what I should do next. If this was any other girl, I’d drive back to her house with no hesitation whatsoever and take her inside. But this is Avery, and like I said, she’s different.
“So, I thought maybe we’d stop by my house for a bit if that’s okay with you. This way, someone like Jake doesn’t see my truck parked in your drive and make trouble.” Even to my own ears, I sounded a little nervous as I said it. What the hell? It’s not like it’s my first time taking a girl home. Then it hits me. It is the first time I’m taking a girl home; to my house. I always go to their place. But the thought of Avery in my house, my bed, just feels right.
“That sounds good,” she says with another shy smile. I love that smile; it’s filled with happiness and innocence. I turn off Main Street and head down Lincoln towards my house. When I reach my house, I pull into the drive and kill the engine. I hop out and walk around to her door. When I open it, she seems slightly hesitant, maybe even nervous.
“I can take you home if you want.”
“No,” she quickly throws out there. “I want to be here…with you.” There’s that damn smile again. I extend my hand to her and help her down from the truck and head inside.
When we step inside the dark recesses of my living room, I start to walk towards the lamp but she catches me by the arm, stopping me. I turn to look at her. The only light in the room is what moonlight is filtering through the window. Standing there in my darkened living room, light glowing off her blond hair, she looks stunning. She extends her hand up to cradle my cheek, her other hand runs up my abdomen from my stomach to rest on my chest. I step closer to her, looking deep into her eyes. She must have realized she was holding her breath because she lets out a big breath which comes out a little shaky. I look deep into her crystal blue eyes, and that’s when I see it. Lust. Desire. Trust.
My resolve shatters like a glass vase with that one look as I push her back against my front door. Our lips are urging each other on as our desire for each other completely takes over. She runs her tongue down my neck, and I almost come completely undone in my pants like a teenage boy by that one simple move. I cradle her ass in my hands and lift her up. She threads her legs around my waist, her hands diving into my hair. I lean against her, pushing her back into the door, and she moans. It’s the sexiest fucking sound I’ve ever heard and all I can think about is being deep inside her, making her moan over and over and over again.
I press hot kisses along her chin, down her delectable neck and lick the spot where her pulse is rapidly beating. “Tell me to stop, Avery. Tell me to stop right now and I will. But if you say nothing, I’m taking you back to my room and burying myself deep inside you. I’m going to make you come and scream my name. All. Night. Long. Tell me you want this as much as I do.”
“I want this,” she whispers without hesitation and that’s all I need to hear.

Title: The Perfect Boyfriend
Series: Boyfriend #2
Author: Renee Novelle
Release Date: July 27, 2014
Genre: New Adult

Synopsis

The Perfect Boyfriend picks up right where we left Reagan and Ian in The Boyfriend List.

As their friendship blossoms quickly into a steamy romance, Reagan and Ian have to learn to navigate their shifting relationship...and everything that entails. But their newfound bliss doesn’t come without a few unexpected challenges.

In the midst of realizing just how sweet the romance can be between them, and all the benefits of their new dynamic, Reagan is informed that her ideal situation has changed. Not only will she need to begin taking on more classes to speed up her graduation date, but she’ll also have to start looking for a job to supplement her fading income. Meanwhile, Ian has chosen to pull out of school once his father is diagnosed with a terminal illness in order to help manage the family business and spend time with him while he still can. But he wrestles with the guilt of leaving Reagan behind, and the pressure of his new responsibilities.

As the two meet their new challenges head-on, they’ll be forced to discover whether or not they’re as compatible as lovers as they were as friends. With their focus pulled in so many directions, will they have what it takes to keep a long distance relationship alive? Can Ian prove that he’s still be the perfect boyfriend, or will they fold to statistics under the growing tensions of their lives? Throw in some manipulative exes, a new boss with an inflated ego, and a co-worker from hell and the two have a recipe for either a fairy tale ending, or a complete disaster.

The Perfect Boyfriend is a New Adult Romance about trust, love, and discovering the true depths of personal strength.

4 Stars

I really enjoyed The Perfect Boyfriend by Renee Novelle which is the follow-up to The Boyfriend List. This story starts off right where the first book ended. Reagan and Ian are finally coming to terms with their feelings for one another. This was book took me on quite an emotional rollercoaster. I laughed with them, cried with them and sometimes wanted to jump into my kindle and slap them.

Ian decides to take Reagan on a real first date to start their new relationship off on the right foot. Petra helps Reagan get ready to make Ian speechless. Ian  is pulling out all the stops to make this a very special date for Reagan. This is such a sweet love story. This is one of my favorite quotes from the book.

“This isn’t just another first date. This is the beginning of forever for you and me. And if you decide that’s not what you want down the road, that’s fine. But Reagan, my intentions aren’t just to find another short-term girlfriend. I want you, all of you, for as long as you’re willing to give me.”

They do run into a few obstacles along the way that will test their love for each other. They learn that long distance relationships can be tough but love can get them through anything. Ian and Reagan both do a lot of growing up in this book. I loved the connection between the two main characters. I really connected with some of the struggles the characters went through as I have been in some of those situations myself. Petra was an amazing friend to Reagan as she was always pushing her to try new things. I can't wait to read what Renee is working on next. Hopefully we will see more of Reagan and Ian in future books.

Excerpt

Reagan’s time with Ian was never long enough. Not really. Not when she was still used to having him in her life every day – man she’d really taken that for granted, hadn’t she? But her moments with him now were sweeter, more complete. And the remainder of the weekend had passed without any other dramatic events. It would hold her over until the next time they could steal some time together. At least, she hoped it would.

But now it was over. And she was back to her regular schedule. Except this week was a little different. This week she’d throw her new internship into the mix and learn just how good of a juggler she could be – her class schedule, new assignments, friendships, her relationship, the internship and anything else that the universe cared to throw at her. It was no joke, that was for sure, and Reagan was beginning to feel all of the pressures that the outside world held for her once she graduated. But she could manage it, she remind herself as she changed clothes for her new role. She didn’t have any other choice but to make it all work somehow.

After having picked up a few new outfits to compliment her new important role – using some of the money she’d kept from the club, of course - Petra had helped her coordinate the rest of her wardrobe to expand her options. And the result was at least a couple weeks worth of choices that had left her feeling confident, appropriate, and ready to impress. Every little detail counted, and her poise when she stepped through the large glass doors that first day spoke volumes toward her ambitions. Reagan had set herself up to succeed in every possible way.

Having no real instruction with which to work from on how to approach her first day, she strode up to the receptionist, who this time greeted her with a friendly smile. Success already, she thought to herself, and her smile widened that much more. “Welcome back Reagan.” The woman began. “You’re all going to be starting in the conference room today. Around that corner and through the second door.”

“All?” Reagan had known she wasn’t the only intern, but the phrase made it seem like there was an army in attendance, and the thought sent a little shiver of nerves up her spine.

“There’s three of you. You have a quick orientation together, then it’s all smooth sailing from there.”

Reagan nodded as she contemplated this answer. Nothing was ever exactly smooth sailing when you threw a bunch of competitive girls together and told them to battle it out to impress the new boss. But one could always hope for the best...

The heels she’d chosen tapped lightly as she clipped down the slick hall and toward the door marked, Conference, #2. She noticed her hand trembling as she lifted it to turn the handle. Taking a deep breath, she tried to let go of all her anxious energy – just be yourself, she lectured – then she forced a huge smile over her face.

But when she stepped through the door, her face immediately fell. All the calm composure she’d just summoned drained from her body and left her face as white as the stark walls. The shaking returned, only it wasn’t from nerves now. Her body was riddled with anger, contempt and yes, even a little humor as she considered the universe’s latest irony.

Because the first person to turn around when she stepped into the room was Isabella. The Isabella. The Isabella who had stolen her boyfriend. Who had tried to seduce Ian. And had otherwise made her existence miserable. The Isabella who had ruined spring break, nearly ruined Petra’s party, and had caused Reagan to question almost everything she knew about people. That Isabella was nearly three feet away from her, dressed in a fitted color-block dress she’d probably picked up at Bebe just to show off her flawless figure. Apparently, whatever dislike Reagan had for her was a mutual feeling, since she was smirking in recognition as she gave Reagan a long, lingering, stare meant to intimidate and demean without saying a single word.

“You’ve got to be kidding me.” The words slipped from Reagan’s lips before she could stop them, and she found herself regretting the thought the moment she’d heard it.

PROMO: OF HIGH TREASON BY EMBER SHANE

When Doyle Hawthorne first discovered the truth behind his royal lineage, he couldn't have imagined a worse fate. Excerpt #1

Addy kept her back to me as she began to disrobe.  I watched as first she unbuttoned her jeans, pushing them past her hips and then bending slightly at the waist to pull them off one leg at a time.  One very thin layer of lilac cotton was all that stood between Addy and the complete exposure of her most intimate areas.  My throat constricted.  She was punishing me, deliberately inflicting pain with no regard to her own safety.
"Stop," I barely managed to whisper.
She grabbed the hem of her raglan and yanked it over her head without grace, slinging it on top of the jeans in the floor.  I knew I should, but I couldn't look away.  Her hands fluttered to her mid-back to grapple with the hook enclosure of her bra.
Oh, God.

Excerpt #2

He was really going to do it.  He was really going to set me free.  I hadn't spoken a word, terrified that I would somehow give away my plan to pull off his appendages like the petals of a daisy the moment I was free of my restraints.
He pointed the remote at the metal framework and paused.  "I trust I don't need to point out attacking me would not be in your best interest."  The words were delivered as a statement, but his hand held the remote in midair, as if waiting for an answer.
"That would be very foolish indeed," I said, making my face as expressionless as possible.
For the first time since I'd met the man, he smiled a genuine smile.  And then he pressed the button that allowed me to slide free from my bindings.

Of Royal Descent (Book #1)

Goodreads
They say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. But sometimes, under extreme circumstances, it's exactly that which kills you that makes you stronger. And faster. And a member to a new, elite race of zombies.

Armed with a current address for his biological grandfather and a slightly unusual, yet loyal best friend, Doyle Hawthorne sets out to discover the truth about his past. But answers don't come easily, and the closer Doyle arrives to his destination, the more confusing things become. Disturbing alterations to his physical appearance as well as to his personality flicker on and off as Doyle searches for a logical explanation.

Despite the increasing severity of these uncontrolled flare-ups, Doyle is determined to keep his first date with Addy - a beautiful, young woman he has met upon his arrival into town. After narrowly subduing his raging impulses, Doyle quickly decides not even death itself can keep him from her. Unfortunately, he is about to test that theory.

Once initiated, nothing can alter the process of shading - the term given to the three distinct phases of becoming a higher classification of zombie, commonly referred to as "royals". Doyle must learn to control his tendency toward violence as well as his newfound royal powers if there is any chance of protecting those he loves from a mad scientist, the government, the colony of royals, and most importantly... himself.

Excerpts:
      Becky's point of view
“I already asked you this question earlier, but do you like your suite?”
“It cost too much, Matt. But, yes. I would be crazy to say no. I need to find a way to thank you.” My tone came out flirty at the end.
“I know how you can.” His tone was sultry, luring me in. Oh shit! What was on his dirty mind? “I want you to touch yourself.”
What? “Matthew,” I laughed softly. “You’re not here.”
“Just pretend I am. Have you ever had phone sex before?”
I almost choked on my own saliva. I’d heard of and done many things before, but this was a first. When I didn’t answer, Matthew continued. “I can’t believe I’m going to be your first.” He sounded so proud. “I’m going to make you feel so good.”
His words alone were turning me on. Holy shit! “You mean I’m going to make myself feel good.”
He chuckled lightly. “However you want to see it.”
The preview porn on the television wasn’t helping either. I thought about watching it, but Matthew or Max was going to pay the bill, and no way were they going to find out that one of us watched one. “This isn’t going to work,” I said. But my hand was already kneading my breast. I pretended it was Matthew’s hand instead.
“I’m stroking my dick, Becca. I’m pretending your tongue is licking it.” Whether Matthew was really doing what he said he was doing, I didn’t care. It was working for me. “Put your hand on your clit, Becca, and touch it the way I do it. Pretend it’s my finger. Imagine me sucking it hard there, baby. Can you feel me?”
Holy fuck! “Yes,” I replied, feeling my chest rise and fall with pleasure that was building inside me.
“Now…stick your finger inside and pretend that’s my dick. I’m going to pretend I’m inside you.”
Hearing Matthew groaning into the phone brought me to another level of excitement. There was no way he could fake that sound. It was too genuine, and every moan made the urge for him that much more intense. “Can you feel me, Becca? Push in deeper.”
“It’s not the same,” I whimpered. My body was in limbo. I couldn’t satisfy myself, and the more I tried, the build up was too unbearable.
“Want me to finish it for you, Becca? You want me inside you?” His tone seethed into the phone in the most delicious way. I was already losing my mind, yearning from the need of him.
“Yes, but you’re not here.” I said it somewhat angrily, trying to tame the throbbing ache between my legs. I was mad at him for putting me over the edge to the point my pants were half way down, my breast exposed, and I was now watching the stupid porn. How I got to this point, I had no clue. It was as if his words were magic, controlling my actions.
           “I promised before that I wouldn’t start something I couldn’t finish. Now…open the door.”
