Break Down Here by Shayne McClendon

Madison is running from a monster. She lands in the small town in Alabama and meets Xander and his family who take her in and allow her to hide from her past. This story has to do with Madison trying to hide and a past of horrible abuse. This story is about moving on with your life after a past of abuse. She learns to love. Xander will do anything to keep Madison safe and let her move on from her past. Together they work to put her abuser behind jail. Even though this was a short story I feel in love with Madison and Xander. I was hoping for closure so they could move on with their lives. Ms. McClendon packed love, friendship, family, heartache, pain and happiness in a great short story that will keep you turning the pages.

Cricket by Tess Oliver

I loved how Ms. Oliver wrote the story in such detail. It made you feel like you were with Jamie at the cabin. I wanted to sit in front of a fire and drink hot chocolate. Jamie is running from her cheating ex. Her best friend conveniently tells her to use her family's cabin for the weekend knowing full well that her brother will be there. Soon more than the fire heats up as they discover lost feelings from high school. This is one short, hot, sexy read.

These two short stories were great reads. I can't wait to read the rest of the stories from a wonderful line up of great authors. All of the short stories are never before seen. So pick up this anthology to get some great reads and support an awesome cause.

All proceeds will benefit the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer through the Fifty Shades of Pink team.

When You Want by Ruth Cardello
Ruth Cardello was born the youngest of 11 children in a small city in northern Rhode Island. She spent her young adult years moving as far away as she could from her large extended family. She lived in Boston, Paris, Orlando, New York--then came full circle and moved back to Rhode Island. She now happily lives one town over from the one she was born in. For her, family trumped the warmer weather and international scene.

She was an educator for 20 years, the last 11 as a kindergarten teacher. When her school district began cutting jobs, Ruth turned a serious eye toward her second love- writing and has never been happier. When she's not writing, you can find her chasing her children around her small farm, riding her horses, or connecting with her readers online.

Kindred by Angela Graham & S.E. Hall
New York Times & USA Today Bestselling author.

Angela knew she found her calling in the world of fiction the moment she began pounding away at the keys for her first short story in 2012. With a baby on her shoulder, she wrote for about a year before deciding to try her hand at an actual novel. It was the best decision she ever made and since then she continues to bring characters to life in her free time snuck away from her first role as mother to her three young children.
S.E.Hall is the author of the Amazon Best Selling Evolve Series: Emerge, Embrace, Entangled(novella)and Entice as well as the best selling stand-alone NA Romance, Pretty Instinct. Relinquished by K.A. Hunter
Kimi grew up in the San Gabriel Valley (mostly Alhambra) and still lives in Southern California. She's been married to her high-school sweetheart and prom date for over 22 years and they have two hilarious boys.

When she's not reading or writing, Kimi spends her time in the kitchen trying to come up with vegan meals that don't taste like cardboard. Her family might disagree with this however.

Volunteering is extremely important to her and her family. Together, they work with several local non-profit organizations. A portion of her sales will always go to charity.

Books 1-3 in the Intertwined Hearts series, are available now and book 4, Grafted Vines (Dani & Zachary's story) is anticipated to release in early 2015.

*** UPDATE BY AUTHOR...I have some EXCITING news. I decided to write a new novel under the pen name, K.A. Hunter (will add links when they become available). I'm not hiding behind the name but this novel, and others that will follow, is more raw and definitely grittier than my Intertwined Hearts series. The first 4 chapters have been written into a short story that will appear in an anthology in February 2015 and I anticipate publishing the full novel around July 2015. Those that have read it confirm that it's nothing like what I've written before and they were blown away. Can't even tell you how happy that makes me :D
Insatiable Hunger & Will You Be My Valentine (Two Stories) by Jade C. Jamison
For years, Jade C. Jamison tried really hard to write what she thought was more "literary" fiction, but she found herself compelled to write what you read by her today--sometimes gritty, raw, realistic stories and other times humorous, light stories--but most of the stories she writes revolve around relationships and characters finding their way through life. While she doesn't confine herself to just one genre, nor is there a nice neat label for what she writes, most of her work could be called erotic romance.

She lives in Colorado with her husband and four children.

Dry Spell by Vi Keeland
Vi Keeland is a native New Yorker with three children that occupy most of her free time, which she complains about often, but wouldn't change for the world. She is a bookworm and has been known to read her kindle at stop lights, while styling her hair, cleaning, walking, during sporting events, and frequently while pretending to work. She is a boring attorney by day, and an exciting New York Times & USA Today Best Selling smut author by night!

Being a writer allows J.B. to remain close to her family, work on raising awareness for this disease, and to lose herself in the stories that she creates for her fans.

J.B. McGee and her family now reside in Buford, Georgia. She is an Amazon Top 100 bestselling author of her debut series, the 'THIS' Series.
Frozen Fantasy by Nicole Andrews Moore

Nicole lives in Charlotte, North Carolina with her husband, a teenage son and daughter, and Kenna. Every day is new and sparkly...which is why she chronicles them on her blog, Suddenly *Not So* Single Journey. It is a way for her to spread her brand of hope, happiness, and love.

Previously, Nicole has been published by McClatchy News in their syndicated papers. In 2010, she joined the Yahoo! Mother Board, became a Shine Parenting Guru, and has become an award winning dating and relationships expert for Shine.

SHELLY'S 5 STAR REVIEW:

You see, meeting the love of my life at age thirteen was never part of my plan. However, neither was gradually going deaf at the age of twenty-one.

They both happened anyway.

Get ready to read a story that will tug at your heart strings.  Follow two teenagers that come from broken homes as they discover each other and forge a friendship to help them survive.  Every night they meet in an abandoned apartment and escape the reality of their lives for a few short hours.  As they grow older the responsibilities in life take over but they never give up on their fantasy.

Till has the responsibility of looking after his two younger brothers because his parents are never around.  He works two jobs, trains at the gym in an after school program and watches over his brothers.  He has to grow up way before his time.  Eliza is his fantasy.

Eliza has grown up not knowing the love of her parents.  She escapes in her art.  The day Till crawls through the window of the abandoned apartment her life changes.

"It was more than a friendship, but there wasn't romance or sex. There was definitely love though. Immeasurable amounts of it. I knew Till had this grand fantasy about me. But what he didn't realize was all that he gave me in return. He was the only thing I'd ever had that I honestly thought I couldn't live without.

This story is raw and realistic.  You will become invested in Till, Eliza, and all of the secondary characters.  Ms. Martinez does a phenomenal job or writing a realistic story of two people who come from broken, poor background and have to struggle to make it in life.  They struggle working many hours a week, living in a run down apartment and trying to afford to put groceries on the table.  Family and friendship pay an great role in getting through the tough times.  Till and Eliza have their tough times and your heart will break right along with them as they try to work it out.  The twists in this book are thrown in at the perfect timing, you won’t see them coming.

You will feel every emotion while reading this story.  Be prepared to cry, laugh and have some OMG moments.  Ms. Martinez will invest you in every character that she writes about in Fighting Silence.  It was told from Eliza and Till’s POV.  It does not end in a cliffhanger but I am crossing my fingers that the next book will be about Flint.  This is one of the few 5 star reads that I have had this year.  You won’t be disappointed in this book.  I will definitely be moving the other  Aly Martinez books I have on my TBR list to the top.

FIGHTING SILENCE
"That wasn't yours to take away," he exploded into the otherwise silent night. His words echoed off the surrounding buildings, each wave slicing me to the quick all over again. "That was our place. Not yours." His voice cracked right alongside my heart.
"Yeah, well, there was a lot of stuff that wasn't yours to take either." I held his gaze, desperately trying to be strong, but as his eyes grew wide, I whimpered.
His long legs strode forward, stopping only inches away from me. He was crowding me, but he still leaned in closer to my face. "There is nothing in this world that was ever more mine than you," he stated. Though it was the absolute truth, I wished with all my heart that it were a lie.
"Till," I cried, swiping the tears from my eyes.
"Why!" he shouted, causing his muscles to tense under the force. "Goddamn it! I needed that place."
Porch lights flashed on from the surrounding apartments, illuminating not only the dark but also my rage.
I shoved my hands into his chest. "What about what I needed? You left! I waited in that fucking apartment for weeks."
He didn't budge, but my bare feet slipped, sending me toward the ground. Impossibly fast, Till's hand snaked out and caught my arm. I didn't let his chivalrous gesture douse my fire. I had six months’ worth of words to say to the man I was irrevocably in love with.
"You took what you wanted. Then you left me."
"Doodle," he whispered.
I had been perilously close to the edge of insanity, and with one single word, he’d pushed me over.
I lost it completely.
Pounding my fists against his chest, I screamed at the top of my lungs, "It's Eliza! My name is fucking Eliza! Not Doodle!" I spun to march away, but Till's arms folded around me, lifting me off my feet to restrain me.
I was miniscule compared to him. There was no use in fighting, but I still kicked my legs, irrationally desperate to get away from him—but only because I knew I couldn't keep him for forever.
"Stop it!" he growled into my ear. "I know your Goddamn name—probably better than I know my own."

fighting silence.jpg
Sound is an abstract concept for most people. We spend our lives blocking out the static in order to focus on what we believe is important. But what if, when the clarity fades into silence, it's the obscure background noise that you would give anything to hold on to?
I've always been a fighter. With parents who barely managed to stay out of jail and two little brothers who narrowly avoided foster care, I became skilled at dodging the punches life threw at me. Growing up, I didn’t have anything I could call my own, but from the moment I met Eliza Reynolds, she was always mine.  I became utterly addicted to her and the escape from reality we provided each other. Throughout the years, she had boyfriends and I had girlfriends, but there wasn't a single night that I didn’t hear her voice.
You see, meeting the love of my life at age thirteen was never part of my plan. However, neither was gradually going deaf at the age of twenty-one.
They both happened anyway.
Now, I'm on the ropes during the toughest battles of my life.
Fighting for my career.
Fighting the impending silence.
Fighting for her.
Every night, just before falling asleep, she sighs as a final conscious breath leaves her.
I think that's the sound I'll miss the most.
