Life is full of choices: good, bad, and ones you can’t control.

Raegan strives to be perfect in every way. Varsity cheerleader, honor student, and proud granddaughter of Dover Lowery. By day, Raegan is an over-achieving high school student, but at three o’clock, her real work begins.

What happens when appearances are not what they seem? Will Raegan be able to hold on to her life as she knows it, or will she be left all alone?

All of these questions are answered with one night, one song, one story, and one boy.

APRIL'S 4 STAR REVIEW:

Southern Perfection is my first novel by Casey Peeler.  And I loved it, far different from my normal reads.  Southern Perfection is a beautifully written dual POV story;  about loss, first loves, and a family that would do anything for one another. I was ugly crying by the end.

Raegan is in high school and lives and works on her granddaddy’s farm.  She moved in with her granddaddy after a huge family tragedy.  Raegan is the head cheerleader, and always puts on a strong face because that is what people have learned to expect from her.  The only time she feels at home and herself is on the farm. One thing that Raegan will not fall into, is the everyday teenage drama.  She is striving to be the best person she can be despite everything that has happened.

Emmett is a boy that has come back to town to live with his mom and step-dad.  He was friends with Raegan as a child, and has never forgotten her.  Emmett is not like the rest of the boys in the high school, out to prove that he is the “best fit” for Raegan.  He starts by being her friend, shoulder to lean on, and enjoys doing things that she does.  He doesn’t fall into only wanting to be with her because she is popular.  He wants to be her friend, boyfriend, shoulder to cry on, and ultimately the one she can truly be herself with.  And over time, he does just that.

There are other major characters in this book.  Granddaddy, Cole, and a few friends from high school.  I know this sweet southern romance is unlike others that I have read.  I loved the heartwarming, tear jerk, full of emotions road that Casey took me on.  Finding your true love, despite everything that is going on in your life, and someone who earns the respect of your granddaddy and knows the meaning of family values is rare.  But Raegan found that in Emmett.

I give this book 4 stars.  And I will definitely read more of Casey’s work.

When Emmett whispers in my ear that it’s time to go, goose bumps rise on my skin.  I bite my lip and nod in agreement as we make our way outside.  Our ride to the farm is filled with laughter and a desire to constantly touch each other.  I hear Dustin Lynch begin to play through the radio, and before I know what’s going on, Emmett has pulled the truck off the side of the highway with the engine running.  I stifle a laugh as he runs to open my door and squeal as he takes my hand and pulls me to the ground and into his perfectly rock solid body. We sing to each other while moving to the beat as random cars continue down the two-lane highway past us.

On the final beat of the music, Emmett takes my cheek in his hand, my mind races as he pulls my lips to his, and he kisses me like his life depends on it.  This has to be the best kiss of my life.  If I thought I saw stars at the field party, I just got caught in an entire constellation.  When I’m brought back to reality, I know that in this moment, this boy is going to change my life.
